Upload and Opt-In for Justice

Is there a cold case that you’d like to see solved? Or a Jane or John Doe that you hope will be identified one day? What if there was a way that YOU could help speed up the process and possibly even be the key to cracking a cold case and help get justice for grieving families? Well now you can!

Organizations like Parabon, The DNA Doe Project, Bode, AdvanceDNA and many other use GEDmatch and FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) to help identify perpetrators as well as Doe’s. But the catch is that only people who have chosen to upload and opt-in to law enforcement matching can be matched with the cold case or crime scene DNA.

Currently, only about 15% of the database has opted-in. That means that out of the 1.2 million kits available on GEDmatch (as of 2019) only 180,000 are available to Investigative Genetic Genealogists for comparison!

Are you ready to help solve a cold case?

If you haven’t purchased a DNA kit, you can do so via the following websites. We suggest Ancestry, since it’s the largest database and often has sales, but feel free to choose whichever company works for you. Listed in parenthesis are the most basic kit you would need to order.

Ancestry (AncestryDNA): Ranges from $59-$99
23&Me (Ancestry + Traits Service): $99
MyHeritage: Ranges from $59-$79
FamilyTreeDNA (Family Finder kit): Ranges from $59-$79
LivingDNA* (Starter Kit): $49
